Advanced Control Systems completes SCADA fiber optic network project for one of Georgia’s largest municipal utilities

Advanced Control Systems (ACS), formerly Efacec ACS, along with fiber optic partner PCS, Inc., has successfully completed a three-year network installation project with the Marietta Board of Lights and Water to provide a turnkey system with innovative technical design and value added options.

Delivering the project on schedule, ACS and PCS designed, installed and maintained a fiber optic network to provide high speed connectivity between the utility’s ACS PRISMTM SCADA system and their 17 electrical sub- stations and 144 automated switches. The project delivered Marietta with a 120 mile, fully digital 48-fiber backbone ring, managed and maintained using PCS’ FiberTrak asset management system. Primarily designed for utility SCADA functions, the network also provides critical fiber use for the city’s traffic, IT, police, fire and other public works entities.

The project provides a wrap-around guarantee beyond cable installation and an alternative technical design incorporating simplicity and added redundancy. The fiber installation project is the latest example of the types of value-added projects that ACS offers through its turnkey services business unit. In addition to fiber work, the company through its extensive partner network delivers and manages projects that include control room design and installation, substation services and communication systems.

“We’ve found that our clients really value the level of service, system integration experience and project man- agement expertise that we bring to the table to help them meet their needs,” said Buddy Reneau, Director of ACS’ turnkey services business. “It’s just another example of our continued focus on being a trusted total so- lution provider to our customers.”
